Allotments
 |
Tucked away down on Second Lane (which is accessed from Newhall Avenue, off Morthen Road) is one of the only allotments in Rotherham that is not run by the Borough Council. Set up by the Parish Council over thirty years ago, and managed by Wickersley Allotment & Garden Association ever sine.
It has grown in size over the years to 32 well-kept plots. Rent for a plot in 2008 is only £15.00 per annum – including the £1.75 Association Fee. Jim Gunn, Secretary, says, “Members represent all age groups, and in recent years a number of younger members have joined, keen on growing their own high quality food. The plots are currently fully subscribed, but if you wish to be added to the waiting list then contact me on 543872”. The Association also has nine Associate Members who pay £1.50 per year membership and benefit from advice and access to the allotment shop on site, which is open on Sundays between 10.00 and 11.30am March to October (first Sunday of every month at other times).
