Teddy Bear's Picnic
This years teddy bear's picnic was held on saturday 17th July. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as kind as in previous years but this didn't put people off.
The children ran around the gorse trying to find teddy bears that were hiding up trees and in the long grass. When all the teddy bears were found we all sat down under the canopy of the trees which sheltered us from the rain showers whilst we ate our picnics. Fortunately the showers stopped just as we started playing the games.
Fantastic event for all the family rain or shine.
2011 date to be confirmed.

Mulled Wine, Mince Pies & Reading Evening
7-15pm Thursday, DATE TO BE ADVISED Wickersley Community Centre & Library
Stu Charmak writes: - When Wickersley Community Centre and Library was opened in October last year, there were a number of activities that added to the excitement of the day and the delight of those who came. One of these activities was the reading that took place in the library. A number of guests had been asked to bring along their favourite pieces of literature, prose or poetry, and read them out to an attentive audience of visitors on the day.
Both evenings brought in a number of people, all of whom enjoyed them immensely; the second evening built wonderfully on the first. Most of the people who came had brought along some of their favourite reading matter and it proved to be an eclectic collection. There was poetry from different eras, fiction, both adult and children's, and factual readings of immense value. But all of them were read with enthusiasm and care.
There was such a good reaction to this that it was decided to hold another
similar, but bespoke, evening of personal readings. This became the Cheese, Wine and Reading Evening, and there have been two of these this year. You may well have seen the posters on the Parish Council notice boards and in some local shop windows.

As a result of that enthusiasm, yet another evening has been planned, but with a Christmas twist. This time there will be mulled wine to drink, and home made mince pies to munch on. But don't let the crumbs get in the way of bringing your favourite reads along, be they about Christmas or not. And if you need a little mulled wine to bring on the courage to stand and read out your favourite piece, so be it.
A thoroughly festive, enjoyable and enlightening time should be had by all. Start your Christmas with peace, goodwill, and the rosy glow that comes from fine (mulled) wine and fine literature.
No need to book, just bring a book!
